The Jones laboratory studies all aspects of cytochrome P450-containing enzymes involved in vitamin D metabolism from the isolated enzyme to the human patient in the clinic. We utilize unique in vitro transfected cell models to study the activation or breakdown of vitamin D in the test-tube. We also use state-of-the-art LC-MS/MS technology to study Òvitamin D metabolomicsÓ in which we analyze all vitamin D metabolites in biological fluids. Among the clinical applications that we have studied recently are: genetic causes of hypervitaminosis D/hypercalcemia, vitamin D deficiency in chronic kidney disease, breast cancer & vitamin D; and osteoporosis & vitamin D..Ê
