Discoveries in microbiology & immunology are in the news daily and these discoveries affect our lives in numerous ways. The disciplines of Microbiology & Immunology are a focus of basic life sciences, at the forefront of research aimed at probing the nature of life processes. During the past several decades, many of the major discoveries that have helped to elucidate the fundamental principles of molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics and cellular microbiology have arisen from studies using micro-organisms. Micro-organisms are also closely associated with the health and welfare of plants and animals, with both beneficial and detrimental effects.
Graduate studies in Microbiology & Immunology offers students opportunities to enter the exciting world of fundamental, original scientific research using molecular and cellular approaches. Along with the practical educational aspects of learning how to develop and test hypotheses in order to carry out productive scientific research, graduate students learn important life skills including a passion for the discipline, thirst for new knowledge, pride in work, respect for others, and adherence to high ethical standards.
