Our Graduate Program
The Goal of the Graduate Program in Pharmacology and Toxicology is to train students to be able: (a) to conduct independent research in the fields of pharmacology, toxicology and experimental therapeutics and (b) to teach pharmacology to students in sciences, health professions and graduate studies.
There are two graduate programs within the department - the MSc program and PhD program. Both programs require several mandatory graduate courses, electives, and a research thesis.

Pharmacologists and toxicologists are employed in a large number of areas including research, development, management, and control within the pharmaceutical industry, health care services, government divisions and biotechnology companies. With an advanced degree in pharmacology, research, teaching and consulting become additional career options.
Research Expertise
Pharmacology and Toxicology has special expertise in three important research areas: (i) role of reactive metabolites in xenobiotic toxicity and drug transporters, (ii) cardiovascular pharmacology of antihypertensive agents, phosphodiesterases, their inhibitors, and drugs whose action involves nitric oxide and carbon monoxide and (iii) neuropharmacology of alcohol, pain, opioids, GABA and excitotoxins.
