BMED 817 - Mammalian Embryonic Development

Overview of mammalian development, emphasizing the cellular and molecular mechanisms that direct embryogenesis. The first 2/3 of the course consists of lectures on gastrulation, neurulation, establishment of the body axes, differentiation, sex determination, limb development, and organogenesis. The last 1/3 of the course involves student seminar presentations and group discussions of current topics in developmental biology and teratology.

Students submit a major essay and give a seminar from a selected list of topics. Three hours of lectures/seminars per week.
