MICR 452 is an advanced virology course which, through lectures, tutorials and virology workshops provides students with an in depth understanding of contemporary problems in virus-host interactions. Lecture materials will focus on the molecular basis for virus pathogenesis including host immune responses to virus infection and viral countermeasures. Emphasis will be on viral infections that result in gastrointestinal, haematological, neurological, and respiratory diseases.

Prerequisites

Minimum 4th year (Level 4) standing, registration in a LISC/BHSc Major or SSP, a GPA of 2.5, and one of (MICR 221/3.0; MICR 271/3.0), and one of (MICR 360/3.0; MICR 386/3.0).

Development of literature-based research skills in order to evaluate and critique how current research articles advance the field of virology.
Development of writing skills in order to critique current scientific literature and use this to support a personal opinion.
