Gross and functional anatomy of the head and neck, back, body wall and upper limb, including blood supply and neural controls.

Prerequisites

(BIOL 102/3.0 and BIOL 103/3.0) or (BIOL 201/3.0 and BIOL 202/3.0) or PHED 153/3.0 or KNPE 153/3.0 or permission of the instructor.

Exclusions

ANAT 215/3.0; ANAT 216/3.0

No more than 3.0 units from ANAT 100 or ANAT 101

Learning Outcomes

Identify and describe the key anatomical features of the head, neck, thorax, back, and upper limb.
Using a regional approach, explain the anatomical relationships between the bones, muscles, and viscera and their associated nerves and blood vessels.
Apply your knowledge to connect the structure of muscles, viscera, and their associated vasculature to understand their key functional roles in the body.
Critically analyze anatomical structure and function to predict functional deficits resulting from anatomical alterations (for example: body mechanics and movement).

Quizzes 10%

Students will be offered a series of low stakes quizzes, involving multiple-choice, identification and/or structure-function relationship short answer questions, designed to facilitate formative learning as well as to confirm the knowledge and integration of the course content.The lowest quiz grade will be dropped. The quizzes will each be worth 2% and will align with the weekly lecture material.

Bellringer Exams (Midterm + Final) 45% (15% + 30%)

Students will complete a midterm (15%) and final bellringer (30%) exam designed to assess their ability to apply knowledge to lab specimens as it relates to the course content.

Written Exams (Midterm + Final) 45% (15% + 30%)

Students will complete a midterm (15%) and final written (30%) exam designed to assess their ability to apply knowledge and demonstrate understanding of the course material.

Time Commitment

Students can expect to spend 5-7 hours a week in study/practice and online activity for ANAT 315 (total time commitment 120 hours to complete the course).
