DDHT 460 - Principles of Drug Development

Advanced study of the component parts of the complex process of drug discovery and development and the assessment of human toxicology including drug delivery and formulation, directed toxicology studies, drug disposition, clinical trials, legal issues and regulatory approval.

NOTE Priority given to students in the LISC Specialization Plan, DDHT Sub-Plan.

Prerequisites

PHAR 270/3.0 or PHAR 340/3.0 or PHAR 370/3.0

Recommended: DDHT 459/3.0 and PHAR 416/3.0

Learning Outcomes

The objective of the course is to facilitate the students’ understanding of the processes involved in pharmaceutical development. Through the preparation of concise written reports and oral presentations, students will acquire written and oral communication skills needed in the private sector.

Evaluations

Oral presentation of problem solutions: 40%

Summary reports of problem solutions: 40%

Participation during class discussions: 10%

Current topic in the pharmaceutical industry: 5%

Peer assessment: 5%
