ÒVitamin A and D signalling and metabolism in health and disease" Vitamins A and D regulate many critical physiological processes both during development and in the adult. Both act by interacting with specific nuclear receptors involved in the regulation of the transcription of genes involved in controlling fundamental cellular processes such as cell proliferation, cell differentiation as well as programmed cell death. Consequently, both vitamin signalling pathways are important for the normal form and function of tissues. Although each vitamin has distinct functions, there are many overlapping functions and disease statesthat can be modified by manipulating vitamin signalling and metabolism. We are developing therapeutic agents that can modify vitamin A and D signalling in chronic kidney disease, cardiovasculardisease, diabetes and cancer.
